Want to be a Copywriter? Where to start
from:If you have finally made up your mind to give a serious try to copywriting then there are a few steps you must follow to come out sailing from this unexplored adventurous tryst that can actually quite easily make you achieve a fortune that you would never have imagined from a conventional nine to five job.
A simple advice for the starters is to take it slowly and easily in the beginning, gradually build the skill and confidence before taking a final plunge. Nothing pays like patience and it’s good not to extend too much too soon.
Some tips that can actually provide a head start to your career as a freelance copywriter are as follows:
1. Don’t leave your day job right away
Just like the start of any other new business, it’s good to learn that your establishment as freelance copywriter will also take some time. Do not be disappointed if you don’t land up with big clients with big budgets during the first few months. So if you are already doing a job then do not give it up in hurry. Start by doing freelancing in the evening time and weekends and gradually allocate more time to it as you gain confidence.
2. Wisely invest your time as a freelancer
It is very difficult to manage your time efficiently while working from home. You will at times be swept into endless search for those copywriting breaks. There are many resources on the internet that will promise an instant six figure salary but do not be carried away by such promises because no skill be mastered in few weeks You will probably be spending a few hundred or more hours to learn the skill and a few more to be excellent with it . So be careful and work efficiently with a goal in mind .Its better if you pace yourself well through a standardized course if you want a more professional and systematic approach to copywriting.
3. Practice everyday
Nothing beats a good practice, so just re-write a business e-mail you just received, see if you can make it better. If you do a MasterSons course than you will have to do weekly assignments, these can actually do you a lot good and accelerate your learning.
4. Work for free
Once you have learnt the skill, than approach the clients. Tell them frankly that you do not have experience, work for free and ask for their feedback as pay. This will not only sharpen your skills but build your confidence also.
